What Causes Pain In Occipital Region?

Hi my friend has a headache near the back of her head (occipital region) and she says she smells blood. She has no upper respiratory issues at all. Shes really worried (she has that disease where if you have a sickness or illness then you think you re dying). Anyway, any idea as to why this could be?

Hi,

Suchpain in occipital region can be due to muscular (sprain), trauma, neurogenic (occipital neuralgia, pinched nerve at neck). Your friend can take rest, apply ice pack, over the counter pain pill like Brufen after food.

In case of no relief, she has to consult an orthopedic doctor. Physical examination and needful imaging investigation would find the cause followed by cause specific treatment (medication, local steroid injection, physiotherapy)

Thank you. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
