What Causes Pain In My Right Finger With Certain Movements?

i had a boxer s fracture back in october of last year. my right hand s 4th and 5th metacarpal tipi-ed up and i had a cast on for about five - six weeks. it pretty much healed to point where i had full usage of my hand again with no pain. the bone slightly jutted out a little as i decided not to have surgery. however last sunday i punched a wall while i was drunk and the next morning my hand was completely swollen. now the bone seems to be jutting out even more than before and there is discomfort when i touch the area. also there is pain in my ring finger with certain movements. it especially hurts when i push my ring finger into my thumb with a lot of force or try to grip an item with just my ring finger and thumb. i was looking for any advice besides, ask your doctor as i am trying not to miss work because of this. based on my description does my hand seem re-fractured?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your hand had almost healed but it looks like you have re-fractured it after you punched it on the wall. You have Inflammation as well as swelling & pain.

You are suggested not to strain your fingers unnecessarily. Get physically examined by an Orthopedic surgeon.

Your treatment will depend upon the type of pathology, fracture detected.

In the meantime take NSAIDS, Combiflam when needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
