What Causes Pain During Intercourse After Using Mirena IUD?

My daughter had mirena IUD (not sure of spelling) put in, 2 months after delivery of her baby, around Feb 17, 2015. She has been having a lot of pain and discomfort quite often, especially after sexual intercourse. Also, she has had a continuous period since delivery of her baby. Her OB GYN did an ultrasound and said the mirena had moved and is now located in the middle of the uterus instead of towards the top of the canal, but said that was still okay. Her doctor doesn't seem to know why she is having a continuous period or why she is having pain, mainly on the left lower abdomen and after sexual intercourse.

Hello
I appreciate your concern
This pain and discomfort might be related to infection or inflammation of the urogenital tract.
continuous period might be related to hormonal disturbances

I see patients with similar complaints in my clinic and I will definitely help her as well in best possible way

I would advise her for battery of tests like blood for hemoglobin, CBC, Liver function test, urine culture and ultrasound, if need be hysyeroscopy.

Meanwhile she should take plenty of fluids to maintain good hydration and urine output.
She may require iron infusion or blood transfusion if she has lost a significant amount of blood in periods

Hope this answers your question
Please feel free to discuss further
Best wishes
