Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have sharp pain on the bone behind my right ear from time to time, pain when swallowing and my right outer ear is very sensitive to touch. I have had this now for several days and today was prescribed Avamys. My question is: is it an infection a 100% or could it be something else? Should I get a X-ray, Ct or Mri or wait For a week to see if this spray will work?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain behind the ear while swallowing which is due to Eustachian tube dysfunction. It could be due to earwax accumulation, upper respiratory infection, ear infection and otitis media. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper examination. Doctor may clean the ear to remove ear wax or prescribe antibiotics for at least 10 days along with decongestants. You can wait for one week for any diagnostic test. Doctor should also give proper treatment for cold and flu , because these can be contributing factors in causing ear infection. Keep your ears dry , cover them while bathing and keep warm compresses on external ear 2-3 times a day , it will evaporate water from ear .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
