What Causes Pain And Weakness On Left Side Of The Chest?

Hi Doctor,
My best wishes to you.
I had a pain in the left side of my chest on 3rd Sept11, evening. Never could realize if it is in my heart or close to my heart. The pain was not continuous nor very painful. It was coming in intervals and it does not lost more than a minute, every time. I slept off that night while the pain was still on. Woke up the next day to realize the pain is still happening and it is there. Never felt the body sweating though. Since the pain lasted for almost 12 hrs with a pain of less than a minute at regular intervals, I had decided to get checked. When checked, the ECG seem to be normal. Did the Echo, it too showed my heart is normal. While i was taking the Echo, the pain was still happening :o)
I was told that, it could be gas. I was given with a syrup named "Sucrafil" to be taken after 30 mins after food, 3 times a day. Tablets named "Rabicip-20" and "Domstal" to be taken 30 mins before the food. I was asked to have this medicine for a week while consuming less of/no spicy food.
Its been one and half days since i started taking the medicine. The pain is gone for now but i feel weak as i am not taking food properly i guess.
To add on, I am 39 yrs old and not a teetotaler and I am a smoker. I dont take both in high doses though.
Could you pls throw some light on this so that, I get out of the tension what i am going through

Thanks for your question on HCM. Since your cardiac workup is normal you problem looks like GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). GERD is due to laxity of gastroesophageal spincter. So acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus and cause the symptoms. Follow these steps for better management of GERD.
1. Nicotine of cigarette smoke damage the spincter. So first and foremost stop smoking.
2. Avoid spicy and oily food. Take plenty of liquids.
3. Avoid stress and keep calm.
4. Go for walk after meals.
5. Keep 2-3 pillows below your head in bed time.
6. SOS take good antacid like rabeprazole or pantoprazole with prokinetic agent levosulperide.
