Hi. my husband got an iv put in five days ago. he felt an unusual amount of pain when it went in and the pain has remained even though the iv is out. a bruise formed and now, today, a dark red line has a ppeared. it appears to be going down from the wound. what could this be/
It is thrombophlebitis or in simple terms an inflammation of the superficial veins and is fairly common after IV accesses. Do not worry. It will resolve with applying Thrombophob or Heparin ointment and take Tab Paracetamol with Ibuprofen twice daily after meals for five days. Also apply crepe bandage to affected part. Take care.
