Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a gastric bypass patient, 7 years post-op. I went to ER last week with lower left back pain. A CT scan was done and the Radiologist stated a small bowel obstruction was found. I have fairly regular bowel movements, though stool is sometimes pencil thin. I have also been able to eat. The ER doctor disagreed with the Radiologist and asked for a re-read. The Radiologist would not change his opinion of the read. I do not know if I should follow up with my gastric bypass surgeon or a Gastroenterologist.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Small bowel obstruction after previous surgeries is in most cases caused by adhesions and this is commonly seen However it must be associated with certain symptoms such as vomit, nausea and innability to have bowel movements. If there is uncertain rtg findings you should do contrast small bowel test or MRI scan to verifiy it better since in case of obstruction, surgery is required. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
