What Causes Numbness In The Toes?

hi i am 55 years old its been around 5 years i started feeling some numbness on my toes and a strange feeling when i move my toes as if my toes and feet were not there is hard to explain but with time it got worse i can move them is just the numbness in my toes that bother me what do u suggest i do

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The numbness you describe seems to be local nerve problem at the foot/toes.
-This can start at spinal level die to lumber spondylosis causing pinching of nerve supplying affected part as the nerve fibers leave spinal cord through vertebral foramina.
- pinching of the nerve at sciatic notch level involving the specific fibers.
-pressure on nerve along it's decent at ankle joint level or tarsal tunnel syndrome.
- uncontrolled diabetes can lead to peripheral neuropathy and the complaints.

MRI at various levels/blood sugar testing would help in pointing out the cause followed by specific treatment.

Please consult your family physician who would exam in you basically to refer you to a diabetologist OR orthopedic surgeon for expert advise.
