Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have herniation at L4/5, happened several years ago, told them I had pain in the thoracic area also-- I was blown off. the did 6 months of rehab-- did nothing, they finally did the injection and that last about 2 months. The problem seems to be getting worse as now I have weakness and numbness in both legs, my arms are at time heavy and awkward to use. I have also noticed that my right thumb doesn t work well now either. I have spasms on the right side of the chest wall in the thoracic area and continues cramps in the lower legs. is this all related to the L4/5 or is there maybe something wrong in the thoracic area.
Lumbar disc herniation at L4/5 can lead to sciatic pain, of the lower limbs. You are having weakness and numbness of the legs. This denotes nerve compression, and in all probability, a minimal access surgery is required to remove the prolapsed L4/5 disc. You would then be relieved of the sciatic lower limb discomfort. However, you do have discomfort of your arms. This is in all probability of disc prolapse of the cervical spine. Problems of the thoracic spine could lead to the chest wall. I suggest you consult a Neurologist or an Orthopedic surgeon, who would advise investigations including an MRI spine to see for the extent of the problem and advise the management.
