What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation On The Fingers?

Hello :) Back in January, I slept on my right arm/hand and that caused a trapped nerve. And I confirmed this when I had a check with the Ortho yesterday (he said something about lunar and neuropathy). I was given pregabalin (once a day for five days), advised for rehab and EMG NCV. For the past few months I was just taking celecoxib (when needed) and putting a patch and liniment. I would have some little tingling numbness on part of my fingers but not always. My right arm would have spasm, but that I had been having for the past two years and again not always. Same thing with my right thigh but very seldom. I started to have headache maybe two weeks ago but its not that frequent but last week it was everyday. Its on the upper back of my head then on top, like its being tightened. The back of my eyes would have this weird sensation too (not blurry) especially when I’m in front of my two monitors, phone and under the sun. I believe the hot weather here (90F-100+) contributes too and I work at night. I kinda had some tingling numbness too on the right side of my face (check and mouth) at some point, I am not sure if it is because of the tightening feeling that I have in my head. I drink coffee everyday, like 2-3 cups but the past two weeks, my head would feel different everytime I have one. Maybe you can enlighten me more on what I am really feeling and give more options. I was told the problem in my arm is not related to my tension headache. Thanks in advance :)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in the query like the sign of nerve damage, repetitive stress, injuries, bacterial or viral infections, toxic exposures, and systemic diseases such as diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. There can be other reasons also like nerve entrapment, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve palsy, hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies (vitamin B1).

I would suggest you consult an orthopedic surgeon for the proper examination. The doctor may order a CT scan, ask for certain movements and complete blood tests.

The doctor may prescribe muscle relaxants, recommend physical therapy of arm and hand along with stretching exercises and recommend particular stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
