What Causes Nose Bleeding?

My 19 year old son is suffering from post-concussion syndrome symptoms as a result of sports related hits to his head. He has been away from his sport and, basically, sitting at home in a state of limbo hoping the symptoms will subside since the beginning of October 2010. The symptoms are not subsiding and over the past year he is getting occasional nosebleeds that are preceded by severe headaches. The last nose bleed happened today and it was preceded by a very bad headache. He is extremely concerned and agitated. Is it possible that the nosebleeds are an additional symptom of the post-concussion syndrome? I would like him to go to our family practitioner to look into seeing a specialist as he did break his nose two years ago and the physician at the hospital didn t think it needed setting? Could the nose bleeds be a result of the broken nose? Thank you.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, I think he bleeds because of the trauma he had before. My advice to you is to seek an MRI imaging to the brain and skull as a whole to know whats going on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman
