What Causes Nose Bleeding?

After 2 very severe nose bleeds (I am on a blood thinner because of heart disease) I consulted an ENT specialist who put me on Kenacomb Ointment with the instruction to discontinue after two weeks. After discontinuing for a few days I had another slightly less severe nose bleed. Is it okay to continue using Kenacomb for longer?

Hi,

Kenacomb ointment is a combination medicine containing:
- triamcinolone (steroid)
- nystatin (anti-fungal)
- gramicidin & neomycin (anti-bacterial)

It is used for skin inflammation/infection.

Now, the first thing in your case is to find out the cause to severe nose bleeds:
- blood thinner drugs you are taking, should revise the dosage with your doctor and after checking your INR level
- increased fragility of the blood vessels in the nose: you have the habit to clean the dry crusts of the nose without flushing with water;
- spikes in blood pressure (bp): monitor your bp and blood sugar levels, record the results for future reference

Kenacomb cannot be used for longer as it carries the risk of its ingredients to get absorbed systematically (especially when it comes to triamcinolone).

I insist to get back to ENT specialist, discuss my options with him/her to find the real problem that is causing nose bleeding.

Hope this helps.
