What Causes Night Sweats And Fast Heart Beat After Bitten By A Mosquito?

My male friend 65 yrs old) has been in Alaska a few months and is a photographer living in a tent. He stated he has been bitten by misquitoes and now is having trouble sleeping, having night sweats, racing heart, fatigue, has lost weight due to being sick. He has seen doctors in Alaska and I told him to check with CDC to verify they don t have Lyme Disease in this state and there has been 65 cases so far. They can t seem to pin point the problem, he has sweats, insomnia, high and low blood pressure, EKG and echocardiogram were positive. Heart is very strong, no evidence of any heart disease or malfunction.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your male friend has a history of being bitten by mosquitoes before developing symptoms, you are suggested to take him to a GP, get him physically examined. Since he is getting night sweats, fatigue, palpitations, skin rash, etc, it looks like West Nile Virus (WNv).

Get CBC & all required blood workouts done to detect WNV. His treatment will depend upon the virus detected.

His treating doctor may tell him to do a few Imaging tests (CT, MRI, Lumbar puncture or spinal tap) to detect the virus causing the discomfort.

If his symptoms are severe he may get admitted in a hospital for intravenous support & symptomatic treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
