What Causes Nausea While On Methotroxate For Rhuematoid Arthritis?

Hi Dr, i have rhuematoid arthritis for the past 5years, i am 37 years old, i have been on sulfasazine, then i had to have methotroxate tablets, i wanted to conceive so i went on prednisolone but no luck. My consultant insisted i go back on methotroxate as i cant stay on steriod for long. So now i am back on methotroxate injections 2.5mg. The only problem is i am always nauseas which i cant stand. It is making me depressed. What can i do?

I appreciate your concern regarding the safety of Methotrexate.
Well, vomiting is one of the common side effects seen with the use of Methotrexate. It is assumed that you are taking this injection once in a week is it not? Anyhow the vomiting can be prevented with the use of Ondansetron tablets or injection.
kindly consult your doctor for his opinion and treatment of vomiting.

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.





Methotroxate can cause gastro-intestinal side effects like Nausea,abdominal distress (common),anorexia,vomiting, diarrhea,Stomatitis/mouth ulcers etc.
You can take preservative-free methotrexate IM or switch over to oral administration 1–2 hr before meals.
