What Causes Myasthenia Gravis Along With Breathing Difficulty?

I have Myasthenia gravis, not sure this is what is causing, infrequent but longer lasting episodes of not being able to breathe. It feels as if my windpipe just closes. It has occurred when eating, laughing, and at least 2x during sleep. However, the night episodes are not as long and scary as the day episodes.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The muscle weakness tends to fluctuate over time; it typically worsens with activity and improves with rest. Weakness of the muscles in the chest wall and the muscle that separates the abdomen from the chest cavity (the diaphragm) can cause breathing problems in some people with myasthenia gravis.

Or, it may be due to pneumonia, anemia or cardiac problem etc.

So please consult your neurophysician he will examine and check for the grade of power in respiratory muscle and treat you accordingly.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
