What Causes Muscle Cramps In Hip Radiating To Toe On Intake Of HCTZ?
I just left the hospital with congestive heart failure, my family doc added furosemide and isosobide mononitrate to my med. There are about 100 side effects on the water pil alone. He has advised to only take as needed. Should I take? HCtZ gave me some gosh awful muscle cramps (knock down type) in the legs from toe to hip.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Deepak 's Response
Yes. Loop Diuretics like Furosemid is effective for Cogestive heart failure patients. As you said eventhough there are some side effects of this drug, here in your situations, the good effects are MUCH MORE important than the side effects they cause. Therefore it is advised to take Furosemide. In case if you still have confusion you can request your doctor to check for levels of pH, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and other parameters to know if Furosemide is helping you or not. Hope i helprd you. take care. bye.
