What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps With Black Stools?

I have had cramping in the lower abdomen off and on for four weeks now; started with diahrrea which was really runny then black stools. The cramping is usually worse after a meal, had distention and gas which was foul smelling at the beginning, now soft brown stools. Could it be an infection?
