What Causes Little Lesions With Clusters Of Little Bumps On It?

I am 33 yrs old, a black female weighing approximately 270 pounds and 5ft 5 inches in height. Some years ago when I was in college, i got this skin virus that caused little lesions with clusters of little bumps per lesion. The doctor told me it was some skin virus that started with "v" and that there was no real understanding of it but that I needed to expose my skin to the sun. He told me that it would go away but that it could return anytime. I really want to know what that skin virus was called. It is not the vitiligo or the one from chicken pox either but i distinctly remember him saying the name and it started with v. I am trying to look it up to see if there have been any advancements but I just cannot seem to find anything about it. It does not make me sick and it only itches when i get hot.
