What Causes Lack Of Menstrual Bleeding After A Mirena IUD Insertion?
I am on the Mirena IUD birth control. I haven t had a menstrual in about 4 months. About 2 months ago, I had sex and started my menstrual 4 days later. Ever since I ve been having a watery like discharge everyday with an odor to it. I ve been tested for an STD and got negative results back today. What else could be causing the odor and leaking everyday.
In my view, the alteration in menstrual cycle mostly likely caused by Mirena. It is not an unusual side effect, and occurs due to release of hormone progesterone from Mirena. However, the cause of vaginal discharge could be due bacterial vaginosis. It is basically over-growth of bacteria like Gradnerella in vagina; due to various causes that includes alteration in vaginal pH due to use of IUD, or use of broad spectrum antibiotics. This condition can be easily diagnosed, and treated using antibiotics like clindamycin and metronidazole. Moreover, this is not a sexually transmitted disease, and will not show up on STD test. I would suggest you to visit a Gynecologist, and get prescription for antibiotics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
