What Causes Lack Of Fetal Cardiac Activity During 5th Week Of Pregnancy?

My ultrasound show a sac and egg yolk but no fetal heartbeat. I am 5 weeks and 3 days. My doctor order another ultrasound in 10 days but will not order a HCG test. I can I tell if my beta is going up? I have a little nauseous and tired but no morning sickness.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Generally, fetal heartbeat is picked up by ultrasound scan as early as by 7th week and most times between 8 to 10 weeks of gestation.
Appearance of gestational sac and yolk (fetal pole) are early signs of gestation, which has happened in your case.
In order to know the progress, you need to serially monitor beta HCG levels in serum. If it shows an increasing trend, then it says your pregnancy is progressing.
In some, nausea and vomiting might start a little late.
Kindly get your blood checked for beta HCG as advised by your doctor. Its levels itself would tell about the pregnancy status. Your doctor might order another scan after two weeks to assess the appearance of fetal heartbeat.
Hence, stay calm and eat healthy foods. Consume good quantity of water and fluids.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
