What Causes Itchy Scalp And Swollen Neck Glands After Applying Hair Dye?

Hello there. I recently died my hair (3 days ago) with dye that I hadn t used before. I developed an itchy scalp the day after. This afternoon the lymph nodes on the back of my neck and in the occipital region are enlarged, hard and tender to the touch. Could the enlarged lymph nodes be due to an allergic reaction or not?

This is due to allergy. Such type of chemical is known to cause allergy. Allergy occurs when your immune system reacts to a foreign body. Foreign body may medicine like hair dye, pollen, animal dander, dust and insect venom etc. Chemical are known to cause contact dermatitis which is a form of allergy. The best treatment of allergy/contact dermatitis is to avoid allergens.

1.     Stop using all kinds of hair dye
2.     Amoxicillin 500 mg every 8 hours orally for 5 days
3.     Levecetirizine 5 mg daily orally for 5 days
4.     Dexamethasone (Dexona) 0.5 mg – 1 tablet twice orally daily for 5 days
5.     You can apply calamine lotion – three times daily – will provide soothing effect
