What Causes Itching Sensation In Hands And Arms While On Sulfamethoxazole?

I am taking sulfamethoxazole-tmp for bronchitis and woke up with severe itching, hands and arms, now heavy hives on mid section, butt and legs. I ve been on the medication for 8 days and have 2 more to go. Cough is still not cleared up. Please advise.

It is possible that you have an allergic reaction to the medication or some other agent.

This is the most common cause of this type of rash.

You need to consider informing your doctor. Alternative medication can be given and you need to use an antihistamine to help with the rash.

Antihistamines are available over the counter
