What Causes Irregular Periods?

I am 50 years old and have had regular periods, 28 to 30 day cycles for 20 years. I missed my last period. I had bloodwork done for pregnancy, thyroid and menopause, all came back neg. My doctor wanted me to take provera to bring on my period, but I didn t care for the side effects. I m taking the wait and see approach. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Hello,
Considering your age, it appears that you are likely to have entered the perimenopause. This phase cannot be widely distinguished from the hitherto normal phase, except for the fact that the periods get slowly spaced up and all sorts of possible menstrual disturbances can happen ranging from inter-menstrual spotting, heavy periods, prolonged periods etc. ultimately landing in menopause. Please maintain a healthy weight, healthy diet, regular exercise and follow up. Hope this helps.
