What Causes Irregular Periods?

Hi, i am looking for some advice please. I had my routine smear test in August and since the middle of September i have been having irregular bleeding.. Starting every 3 weeks and lasting for a week sometimes longer. So basically i am only having 2 weeks free of bleeding and i am really worried. Should i go back and see my gp? Thank you

Hi,
From your history, it appears as though you are experiencing frequent periods or in other words, the cycle span has been reduced to 21 days. If you are in the peri-menopause, this is a common appearance. Yet, you need to have a proper clinical evaluation, a trans-vaginal sonogram to know the status of the pelvic organs, blood counts, urinalysis and hormone profile. You should also take general nutritional supplements to balance the blood loss. Infections, trauma, stress, hormone conditions like PCOD, fibroids and polyps etc. can cause such a situation. Please take help from a specialist for further care. Hope this helps.
