Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Irregular Periods While Suffering From PCOS?
I am 39 years old. My last period was 13th February and was strange as was the month before. I would have a very dark brown clotting for first 2/3 days and then very heavy bleeding. I now seem to have skipped my next period completely. Definitely not pregnant. I also have PCOS but have never had really irregular periods just always heavy. I have had some blood results from dr this week as I am suffering with pain in my knees and foot. The results came back with raised ESR and vitamin D deficiency which I have been prescribed supplements. Could all this be related and do you think I should speak with dr about my cycle?
Hi, in pcos patients, the problem is with ovulation. Ovulation doesn't happen regularly, so the periods are irregular. There can be associated thyroid disorders also. So, get a thyroid profile and prolactin levels done. You can take some medicines like progesterone for inducing periods. You may need some hormonal treatment for pcos. I think vitamin D deficiency is generally not related to pcos, but it can affect your periods. So, take the supplements. You can discuss with your doctor regarding your periods problem.
