What Causes Irregular Periods Along With Abdominal Pain?

I am 23, 5 5 , around 135-140 lbs, medical history: childhood athsma, seasonal allergies, a heart murmur that turned out to be nothing, tubes in my ears as a toddler, an adenoidectomy, cysts removed from my forehead and earlobe. I have been having extremely abnormal periods for about a year now. For three consecutive months I had 2 periods a month. One would come when my period normally came but would be lighter and last longer, and the other would come mid-cycle and would be almost entirely brown discharge and last for almost 8 days. Then after those 3 months, it seemed like my period had gone back to a normal schedule but then I noticed that it has been getting increasingly light to the point that it barely lasts for 3 days, if that. It s also a different consistency, more mucous-like. Every now and then I get aches in what feels like my kidneys and now I m noticing my hair on my head seems thinner, and I m noticing more is coming out than usual in the shower. I don t know if any of those symptoms are related to each other, but thought it would be better if I included everything.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

For investigations of irregular menstruations you may be asked for hormonal work up like FSH, LH, Oestrogen, Progesterone, Prolactin, etc.

Before hormonal check-up, you will be examined internally to find any organic disease like infection or cyst-Ultrasonography also will reveal a good amount of information regarding your internal organs (and even pregnancy also).

Avoid stress, take healthy diet, drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
