What Causes Irregular Menstrual Bleeding While On Mirena?

Hi, I ve been having unusual periods since May 2016. In October, I had the Mirena inserted to regulate my periods and to help with the cramping. Everything was fine until last month when I started my period on the 18th. I stayed on for a week and due to come off around the 25th. My period stopped for a couple of days, then I started spotting. After a few days of spotting, my period came back and I ve been on ever since. My question is, is there something I can take to stop my period?

Hi I think you can be having a breakthrough bleeding. It is a side effect of mirena. It will resolve with time. For now, you can take some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. If it doesn't work, you may need progesterone like primolut N in high dose to stop the bleeding. Talk to your doctor regarding this. Hope it helps.
