Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Iron deficiency anemia can develop due to many reasons despite taking iron rich diet
1 Less absorption of iron from intestine- This problem occurs in some intestinal diseases such as such as in
celiac disease,
inflammatory bowel disease, surgical resection of intestine etc
2 Excess blood loss such as from menorrhagia (
heavy periods), trauma, peptic ulcer etc
3 Increased demand of Iron in body such as in pregnancy.
Sometimes anemia which look like iron deficiency anemia could be thalesemia or
sickle cell anemia. First of all tests such as serum ferritin, serum iron level, serum transferrin should be done. Low serum ferritin, a low serum iron level & an elevated serum transferrin indicate iron deficiency anemia.
In case of iron deficiency anemia, iron supplementation through medicine would be done. If patient still doesn't respond, Then iron infusion through intravenous route would be done.
