What Causes Intoxication After Taking Ambien Along With Pristiq And Ativan?

Yes. I just came from the home of a person who swallowed Ambien, Pristiq, and Ativan before retiring. She started to appear drunk to me. I am concerned as she just returned from the hospital after falling during the night 2 days ago. Is this a dangerous combination????? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is not recommended to take Ambien and Ativan together as they are both sedative-hypnotics which explain the drunkness she experienced.

The combination at higher doses can even cause respiratory-cardiovascular depression and death.

She needs to be monitored closely, ideally in a hospital setting, until the effects of the medication wear off.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
