What Causes Intense Pain In Vagina And Lower Abdomen After Having Sex?

Hi, I am 21 yrs old, healthy, and no children. I am currently on Tri-Sprintec birth control and I have always had fairly regular cycles. I have no history of sexual health or gynecological problems. Also had a pap smear 2 months ago. Other meds: Cymbalta, OTC caffeine pills Yesterday, my husband and I were having sex when it began to hurt for me. I didn t tell him to stop because the pain was mild at the time. Immediately after sex, I got intense cramps and shooting pains in the lower abdomen. At first I could barely move. It finally subsided to a manageable, yet still uncomfortable level of pain after about 15 minutes. Since then, I have had a dull ache in the lower abdomen, sharp pains when I turn/move a certain way, and intermittent nausea. It had been nearly 11 hours. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the sex. I have had no bleeding, just pain and nausea.I have come to the conclusion that it could be one of three things:1. Bruised cervix (but the pain was immediate, not delayed. My husband is well endowed, but we have never had any issues like this before)2. Very very early pregnancy symptom (missed a few pills while ovulating but it was only a week ago so it is probably way too early to tell)3. Ruptured cyst, endometriosis, or some other scary condition. (I really really hope it s not this one because I want to become a mother and/or egg donor someday)Do you have any idea which one of these it might be or if there are any other possibilities? Also, what can I do to get some relief? Ibuprofen isn t working. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Going through your story, it is seems like a cervical tear or contusion. It can not be endometriosis (painful throughout sex, and cannot come all of a sudden like this), early pregnancy (even implantation time has not elapsed) or ruptured cyst. Just try paracetamol / ibuprofen3 times a day (after food) for 2 days. If it is not getting down by then , kindly see your doctor for a detailed examination.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
