What Causes Impaired Taste After Using Daktacort Ointment?

I have had to use Daktacort Ointment to treat a fungal disease on my toes. It cleared this problem, however I had a complete loss of taste buds. Bak to the Doctor and he has given me Daktarin Oral Gel.
Now I read that in the USA a fungaside has been taken off the market because it resulted in the patient's loss of taste buds. If this is similar as it appears to be the results were to shift my fungal disease fro my feet to my mouth, which is worse! Is there a direct link to the USA drug? If so where am I going to shift my fungus infection to next? Should I stop the Gel and get another brand of medicine?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Daktacort ointment is a combination of Miconazole that is an antifungal and Hydrocortisone that is a steroid..
In case if you have used this gel to treat toe fungus then it is causing loss of taste is not a considerable finding and loss of taste seems to be due to some other factors and not Daktacort ointment..

Daktarin oral gel however contains Miconazole as an antifungal agent and can be given to treat oral infection but first of all I would like to suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get properly evaluated and get proper investigations done to rule out what has exactly caused loss of taste and do you exactly have oral fungal infection or not that needs treatment..

Transfer of toe nail fungus to mouth is not a commonly seen case so it will be better to take any treatment after proper evaluation and expert advise..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
