What Causes Hives And Vomiting Inspite Of Suffering From Febrile Seizures?

i have a 2 year old niece who had a seizure today. She has a seizure every time she has a fever, and has been diagnosed with febrile seizures. Today, however, was different in that she did not have a fever and instead of going stiff, she went limp, then broke out in what appeared to be hives, then vomited twice after the episode. What could this be??

Hello,

Causes of hives and vomiting in a kid could be food allergy, fifth disease or erythema infectiosum, drug allergy, pediatric serum sickness, infectious mononucleosis, viral exanthem or Lyme disease. This may not be linked to febrile seizures and is a different entity. Treatment depends upon the cause. You can give Benadryl syrup for hives and please do consult a pediatrician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. If the vomiting is frequent, syrup Ondansetron can be given.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
