What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding While On Methylprednisolone?

I was given Methylprednisolone tablets 4mg dose pact after developing a rash from an allergic reaction to medications and or medical tape during and after surgery. It is helping the rash but I was on my period when I started this medication and am experiencing a very heavy period that is longer than usual. I am at the premenopausal stage in life and was wondering if this medication could be a contributing factor to this heavy period.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Methlyprednisone is unlikely to cause heavy periods when used for treatment of a rash.
The occurrence of heavy vaginal bleeding is merely co-incidental.
Since, you are in pre-menopausal stage, heavy bleeding should be viewed with caution.
Heavy bleeding could be due to endometrial hyperplasia, fibroids, endometrial growth, hormonal imbalance etc.
I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment and ultrasound of the pelvis to determine the thickness of the endometrial lining.
If the endometrial lining shows thickening, an endometrial biopsy or curretting needs to taken to look for evidence of hyperplasia or malignancy.
Thus, consult your gynecologist at the earliest.
Methylprednisone is unlikely to be the cause of these symptoms.

Thanks and take care
