What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After IUD Removal?

Hi, 10 days ago I had an IUD removed. For the first two days I had minor spotting but on day three, I experienced very heavy bleeding. Day 4 I was no longer gushing blood, but the bleeding was like a very heavy period (and I just had a period 10 days prior to the removal of the IUD, so it was not time for me to have a period yet). Days 4-6 remained at a steady, heavy bleeding. Today is day 7 and I am once again gushing blood. Does this likely have to do with the hormone removal? Or is it likely that my uterus is punctured? I called my doctor the first day that I began bleeding heavily, but according to the nurse, he was in surgery and he never called me back. When I wasn t bleeding as heavily the following day, I thought it might be getting better. Now I have no idea what s going on...
