What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Along With Mood Swings?

I normally have regular periods for me which is dark red thick but of medium flow. About 5 months ago I came off the pill but have had normal periods since then, until this month. It started yesterday and has been bright red, very thin and a very heavy flow. I normally use 2-3 pads a day (changing them when they are about half full) but these 2 days I have filled completely 4 pads. I have had mood swings more than normal for the past week now crying at everything I see!, could this be relatedness

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Changes in intensity and duration of menstrual flow may be noted for few months following discontinuation of birth control pills. It is nothing to be worried about.

Your menstrual cycles will eventually regularize.

The mood swings is likely hormonal changes associated with menstruation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
