What Causes Heavy Brown Vaginal Bleeding After Prolonged Periods Delay?

I just turned 50 a few months ago and have not had a period for about 6 months. I got one last week and it started out just with spotting, now I am full on bleeding and have been for about 6 days and my blood is almost brown and it has a horrible smell. I have never had anything like this happen before. I thought I might have a tampax stuck up there, but I can't find one. Any other possible explanations?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Heavy brown vaginal bleeding & missing your periods for 6 months could be a sign that you may be approaching menopause. No a tampax stuck could not cause these symptoms. Your periods were very regular earlier are also suggestive of menopause possibility.
Menopause is a life event in a woman's life (typically between 40-50 years of age) when she stops ovulating & hence menstruation ceases. Menopause causes great hormonal changes in a woman, which could be responsible for heavy menstrual bleeding you are facing.
According to me you could take Tranexamic acid to reduce the heavy bleeding. You should also visit your gynaecologist for checkup.

Refer to your gynaecologist
Hope this information helps
