What Causes Headache And High Fever When Diagnosed With Concussion?

My 14 yo son was diagnosed with a concussion last Tuesday. He had been headache free for 2 days. Then yesterday and today he has had horrible headaches and has been running a fever of 104. His doctor thinks he has a virus and the concussion is unrelated to the fever. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

I concur with his doctor. With the time span of 2 days between symptoms, it is likely that the fever and new onset headaches are related to an infection, likely a virus since this is most common.

The two are unrelated.

Medications such as paracetamol can help both his pain and fever and you would need to monitor for additional symptoms.
The additional symptoms would pinpoint the exact source of infection and allow for additional treatment.

I hope this helps
