What Causes Foul Smelling Discharge From The Navel?
Hello. I have a leaky smelly discharge from my belly button and my stomach very bloated this happens every time I eat fruit veg or salads. I have no real pain except it pressing on my bladder but very uncomfortable and I look pregnant and last for wkend to 3 days. Please help and what can I do. I am very down about this Thank you Jacqui
Foul discharge from the navel is very suggestive of a fistula between the navel and the gut.
It may be present since your birth and may be showing symptoms now or it may have developed as a result of any infection or polyp or a disorder of the gut like Ulcerative colitis or more likely due to Crohn's disease.
You need to visit the surgeon or a gastroenterologist at the earliest. After a physical examination, you may be advised certain tests like an ultrasound of the abdomen, certain radiological studies like barium swallow and followthrough wherein you are required to swallow a liquid, the path of which will be traced through x rays or endoscopy.
Your problem seems to suggest that surgical correction of the fistula is the best option for you.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Dr Geeta
