What Causes Fluid In Lungs And A Torn Aorta?
hi, just been advised that a family member of 76yrs weighing 48kgs who has high blood pressure and has been on dialysis for the last year 3 times a week has now been told she has a torn aorta. She has been in hospital for the past week firstly to drain fluid from her lungs and now on dialysis 4hours a day and on oxygen. Can you advise prognosis?

The torn aorta is mostly due to hypertension. Fluid in the lungs is mostly due to worsening chronic renal failure (CRF). Since he is on oxygen and his dialysis frequency has been increased, his prognosis is definitely not good. Dialysis itself can cause complications. The torn aorta is a surgical emergency. But surgery is very risky when a patient is on dialysis. So prognosis in his case is very poor.
