What Causes Fatigue, jaw Pain And Sensitivity In The Scalp?

My husband (age 76) has the following symptoms since mid-July: scalp sensitivity, jaw hurt when eating, fatigue, 10 lb. weight loss, bulging vein by his right temple and a general feeling of being ill. He has seen his doctor 4 times, been to the ER and had a head scan with contrast & blood work without a diagnosis! He is on 150 mg of Zolof and HB meds - smokes & on an inhaler. Now has an appointment the Center for Rheumatology on Nov. 21st.! He can t wait that long! He sleeps all the time and even falls asleep at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in his hand. We are now waiting for an appointment with another physician in a neighboring town for another opinion. Without a headache they said it Isn t temporal arteritis. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of fatigue, jaw pain and sensitivity in the scalp which seems to be due to inflammation of tonsils and upper respiratory tract infection. It does not seems to be tooth related like bruxism or TMJ dysfunction. The symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction or side effects of certain medicine. I would suggest you to do throat lozenges and do warm saline gargles. You should avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages and maintain proper oral hygiene. Relax jaw properly and try to take soft food in diet. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin in combination with antiallergic medication Sinarest. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get blood and throat swab test done and start treatment after proper prescription. Take over the counter antihistamine like benadryl. Drink plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
