What Causes Eye Pain And Sinus Pressure Post A Levator Resection Surgery?

Hi, thanks for helping! In May I had a Levator Resection for Ptosis-mullerectomy, posterior approach, on both eyes with great results until I put in my contact lens. This procedure was under the eyelid at the sides of eyes-2 stiches each side. After wearing my gas perm contacts I had an ache in the right corner of my eye that progressed to my sinus and cheek and down to jaw . After taking them out the pain abated after a day or two. But an additional new prescription contact lens and now a soft have yielded the same pain altho now the pain does not go away. Worse in the morning after I sleep on that side but better when I take an aspirin and use the Rx ointment. But the pain comes back on that right side and even goes into my arm. I have no discharge or pain when I touch the surgery site. My optometrist wants me to see a neurologist. WE have ruled out PMR that I had 5 years ago. I m insisting the optho talk to the surgeon and see if this happens post surgery. I can non leave with the dull pain. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of Levator Resection surgery for Ptosis followed by pain on the same side after using contact lenses and now continues on.
The commonest cause I can think of are as follows:
This can indeed be a sinus problems hence I would advise you first to consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, ENT Examination and get a CT scan of sinuses to confirm or rule out sinusitis.
Then the cause can be due to other problems like Trigeminal neuralgia and so on and then consult a Neurologist.
Get started on proper treatment for the pain as per the cause found and have any specific treatment as and if needed.
I do not think that such pains are related to Ptosis surgery, technically not possible unless there was any local problem like infection or so after surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
