What Causes Extreme Swelling On The Face And Upper Neck?

Hi, last night the right side of my face and upper neck (right next to my ear, on my jaw, and right under my jaw) became extremely swollen and tender, totally out of the blue. It s still tender today (slightly less), and some swelling has gone down. I feel pretty fatigued, with intermittent headaches and moments of feeling feverish. Last week on the right side of my neck (in a lower area) I experienced similar swelling, tenderness, fatigue, and moments of fever. About 2-3 years ago I experienced similar swelling and tenderness on my right jaw. Any explanations?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Sudden swelling of the jaw and neck with slight tenderness that goes down on its own seems to be due to allergic reaction which can be related to any foods, drug reaction, bug bites etc..

So it is advisable for you to get it clinically examined and if allergic reaction is suspected you can be advised a blood test to rule out the cause for the reaction..

For now if there is swelling you can get it tested and take anti allergics like Benadryl and do cool compresses over the swelling..
You can also take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to reduce pain..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
