What Causes Excessive Sleeping Along With Headache And Severe Fatigue?

Hello my husband is 45 years old an active alcoholic, who drinks 80 plus ounces of beer daily, has untreated high blood pressure, untreated PAD and a heart that was forming a hardened wall last visit to Cardioligist 3 years ago. He sleeps a lot and this morning woke up to go to work and was shaking severly entire body, severe headache, and exhaustion. We came back home and he went to bed is still in bed. Any thoughts?

Hi
Thanks for using Ask A Doctor service.

The excess sleep is due to effect of alcohol on the arousal system of central nervous system.

Fatigue is possible deficiency of B12 and other nutrients via altered metabolic pathway.

You must consider cutting down his alcohol intake for the sake of health of his heart, kidneys, liver and so forth body systems.

Take care.
