What Causes Excessive Sleepiness While On Ciprofloxacin?

I started taking ciprofloxacin last night 250 mg every twelve hrs for kidney infection detected through blood tests ( not related to kidney infection) have no symptoms of kidney infection! Took another 250 mg at 12:00 today! I have slept (except for 3 hrs after 12 today) from 11 last night u til 8 today just like I had been put to sleep - could hear phone ringing faintly but could not move or wake enough to answer! Is this normal - co cerned about taking next dose at 12 tonight! Did not see anything about this in side effects info - have not had any of side effects mentioned info! Feel like I could go back to sleep now
