What Causes Excessive Burping?

I am 64, in excellent health- so I am told- I believe I am burping more, some awareness around the lower end of the esophagus, I should also say, about 10 days ago I experienced a piece of meat getting stuck in that same area- rather severely -after couple of hours in er- they transported me by ambulance expecting endoscopy , but it finally cleared , it has happened a couple of times in a couple of years. Drs suggested I might consult and have a swallow test , not sure what else to say

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Burping is way of body to expel out air from stomach whether it is due to excess swallowed air or produced because of food digestion or acid reflux or gastritis etc.

Feeling boated in stomach or gas trouble in stomach could be related to dyspepsia, constipation or acute gastritis but it needs further evaluation by clinical examination and various tests to have confirmed diagnosis.

Here, you might need swallow test since you had a history of something meat piece stuck in your throat or esophagus.

If your symptoms are not so troublesome then I can suggest some medications and dietary precautions to get relieved from this bloating.

1) Proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole 40 or rabeprazole 20)
2) H2 blockers like Rantac150
3) Syrup digene 2 TSF three times a day
4) Avoid hot, oily and spicy foods rather take bland diet for initial few days
5) Avoid eating full stomach one at a time rather take small and frequent meals.
6) Have soft diet only for next 2 to 3 days

All the medications are available over the counter and if not then you should consult your family physician or some local doctor who will know about the drugs and can prescribe you.

If the symptoms persists then i will advice you to see physician or gastro physician who can order various tests including endoscopy and can come to a particular diagnosis and start the treatment.
