What Causes Elevated ESR Level?

I was diagnosed with pulmonary TB and I finished the 6 months treatment. Right now, I have no cough, no fever, no loss of weight and no night sweat. My height is 160cm and I weigh 58kg.

I did CBC, ESR and CRP yesterday. My ESR is elevated 30+ in the first hour and 70+ in the second hour. CRP was negative. My CBC says I have normochromic normocytic anaemia with increased eosinophil and lymphocyte.

Was it because of the same infection or another infection?

Breif answer:

It seems to be because of same long standing illness you have had.

Detailed answer:

Hello

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

It's good to know that you have completed the treatment and there is no sign and symptoms of the disease now, and you are having no issues what so ever except altered blood test.

Raised ESR:
Raised ESR is a typical feature of tuberculosis , it can raise to 60-70 when TB infection is at it's peak. Did you get your workup done during disease? I suspect you ESR would have been more than what is it now during your active TB disease.

What to expect:

Blood work will get better as your health condition gets better , get a blood test done in couple of months and you must see a betterment in ESR and other parameters.

Anaemia:
TB causes generalized weakness in body which results in weight loss and anaemia because of general weakness and relative decrease in blood formation , this also should get better in near future.

SUGGESTIONS:
1- Don't panic your blood work is normal for this stage of TB.
2- Repeat tests in a month and compare it with old ones.
3- Live an active life and make regular follow up visits with your doctors according to schedule he gave.(if any)
4- Take meds regularly
5- You can use vitamin supplements like Centrum , it will aid your body in recovering from damage.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help you out.Wishing you good health !!
