What Causes Elevated BP And Dizziness?

My sister is in the hospital it started with high blood pressure 213 over 107 and extremely dizzy. THey did an MRI which came back clear and they just completed an ultra sound on her arteries of her neck. Waiting for results on that. Trying to ascertain what is causing all of this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the health problems your sister is going through.

High blood pressure (bp) is caused by various factors:
- age?
- dietary habits: lots of caffeine? salt? processed foods?
- kidney/liver issues?
- blockage or hardening of blood vessels (atherosclerosis)?
- emotional changes (stress? work overload?)

We should wait for the reports of the tests she did in order to determine the right cause.
For the moment, I can only advise to follow her doctor's advice and a diet restricted in salts and processed/high calorie foods.

Wish fast recovery!
