What Causes Dizziness And Ear Pain In A Child?

My 4 year old son has been dizzy off and on all day today-- he sometimes wants to just lay and says he cannot sit up-- or walk-- so wanted to be carried. He said he had pain behind is right ear and on his neck on the same side- even this morning- mid morning he took Tylenol and was pretty normal all day - even went swimming, eating normal- tonight I actaully looked at his neck is is visably swollen, sensitive to any touch, even after he was asleep-- the area swollen I about 1 and a half inches by 1 inch wide- he has never had an ear infection in his life-- but cant think of anything else with the swelling (hoping lymph node-- but sure doesn t feel like it) and dizziness (inner ear?)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* The kid is most likely having acute otitis media secondary to
swimming pool water infection.

Kindly make him follow basic steps

- avoid swimming till recovery
- local application of ear drops with antibiotic as ciprofloxacin or else as
per the choice of his pediatrician or ENT specialist
- keep the ear plugged with sterile cotton
- get prescription of antibiotic as azithromycin or erythromycin which
will give best resolution of infection
- primary pain relief with analgesic as ibuprofen with paracetamol syrup
or dispersible tablet

Wish him best recovery.
Thanks.
Regards.
