What Causes Difficulty In Defecation After A Hysterectomy?
Im having problems going potty. Had hysterectomy last Friday. I ve tried prunes, prune juice, fleet suppositories, milk of magnesia and of course raisin bran flakes. Why isn t anything working, I am frustrated and it feels like I conatantly have the need to go but nothing comes out. Any more ideas that will work?
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
Post hysterectomy there might be slight changes in bowel function resulting in constipation, decreased bowel frequency, straining during stools , hard stools etc.
At times analgesics used after surgery may also result in constipation. These changes will be reverted back within few weeks of surgery.
I advice you to, - increase the fluid intake - eat more high fiber diet - stool softener & fiber laxative - suppositories - daily intake of milk of magnesia daily will be helpful
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
