Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a 46 year old female. I have always had a menstrual cycle that begins every 24 days without taking birth control. I recently started experiencing (last 2 cycles) delayed cycles. The first time I was 10 days late and the next cycle was 19 days late. I have also noticed increased bleeding. I haven t noticed any other changes and I do not take medication for anything. Do you know what could be causing the change in my menstrual cycle?
I would suggest you undergo an ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis, PAP smear, thyroid profile and detailed pelvic examination by a specialist.
Any sudden change menstrual cycle like an increase in flow can be a subtle sign of underlying pathology which is often ignored by most women in early stages.
Until the test are conducted along with detailed examination it is difficult to establish a conclusion.
However, in the age of mid-forties, the causes can vary from a thyroid disorder, ovarian cyst and cancer to name a few.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
